a quiet revolution...
the blue balance bike, long confined to the beachy shed
and consigned to the memory store in mister bee's head,
spurned in favour of rootin'- tootin' scootin'
(aside from one special guest appearance on a wintry day some months past).
no thoughts of cycling have crossed his mind
but, unseen, a quiet revolution was taking place;
the wheels were turning inside -
like the fruit on our cherry tree, he was ripe.
his feet touched the floor on the red bike indoors,
but there wasn't the space to pedal with grace,
so, off to the park he went on saturday gone
with papa laidback and miss moo too...
and, after a gentle reminder that he already knew how to balance,
he was off...
freewheeling, then pedalling -
just riding, like a pro.
there was no fanfare (though friends later whooped),
nor weeks of doubled over holding with backs scooped.
...it was effortless...
and in the blossoming fullness, from winter to summer,
somehow, he had been resting and digesting.
he now answered to the call of his inner voice,
whispering from within.
the inside moving outward.
